Meet Mackenzie

Hi! I’m Mackenzie Graham, an artist based in Edmonton, Alberta. I create bold, modern artwork that plays with colour, balance, and composition - work that’s meant to bring energy into a space without overwhelming it.

I’ve always been drawn to clean shapes and strong structure, and most of my work starts intuitively. I build pieces slowly, layering colour and form until everything feels balanced and intentional. I’m less interested in perfection and more interested in how a piece feels when it comes together.

My work is available as original art, fine art prints, and through licensing for both residential and commercial spaces.

Artist Statement

My work explores colour, balance, and composition through bold, geometric forms. I’m drawn to how shape and structure can create movement and tension, and how those elements work together to give a piece energy and presence. Each piece is built intuitively, allowing colour and form to evolve as the work comes together.

I work primarily in square formats because I like the structure they provide. The square gives me a solid foundation to work within, while still allowing the artwork to shift easily between horizontal and vertical orientations. That flexibility is an important part of how the work lives in different spaces.

At its core, my work is about creating art that feels confident and intentional. The goal isn’t for it to fade into the background, but to bring personality, energy, and a strong visual presence to the spaces it’s in.

Mackenzie’s Story

Before I ever thought of myself as an artist, I spent years working in government. It was slow-moving, political, and often frustrating. My time was spent trying to move projects forward or explaining the value of internal communication to people who didn’t always see its impact. Over time, that constant push to prove the importance of my work started to wear on me.

Eventually, I burnt out. I felt anxious, overwhelmed, and disconnected from everything - especially myself. Picking up a paintbrush wasn’t about making art or starting something new. It was simply a way to quiet my mind and focus on something tangible when everything else felt heavy.

I’ve always loved working with my hands. DIY projects, carpentry, painting walls, building things from scratch. Creating has always been the place where I feel most grounded. That hands-on, problem-solving mindset naturally carried over into my artwork.

Over time, my style evolved into bold, geometric pieces built around balance, colour, and composition. I’m drawn to structure and clean lines, but I also leave space for intuition and imperfection. That balance is what keeps the work feeling honest and alive to me.

I’ve always been drawn to clean spaces and simple structure, but I’ve never been drawn to playing it safe with colour. I’m a minimalist at heart, but with a love for bold, expressive palettes. Painting became a way to bring those two sides together; a strong structure paired with colour that feels alive and energizing.

Painting is still how I get out of my head and into the work. It helps me focus and create with intention, and I hope the pieces bring that same sense of energy and confidence into the spaces they live in.
